Duties/Volunteering
As with any club, our continued success depends on members taking turns to volunteer, particularly in fulfilling essential duties on the water. This is vital for the effective operation of our activities and events, both on and off the water. We encourage new and frequent sailors alike to participate actively. Member involvement through volunteering ensures the smooth running of the Club and contributes significantly to the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of our community. Volunteering provides opportunities to connect with peers, forge new relationships, develop or refine skills, and build confidence.
The Committee is comprised entirely of volunteers, and we hope that all members will take advantage of opportunities to support one another. Tasks may range from assisting with trolleys at the start and close of races, maintaining clubhouse facilities, boats, and engines, to facilitating public sailing days, open, or social events.
We strongly encourage members to volunteer whenever possible. Guidance and training are provided as needed, presenting valuable opportunities to enhance your abilities across various aspects of sailing.
For on-the-water duties, we employ the Sailing Club Manager online system. Members should log in to the club portal to view and commit to supporting the club on specific dates. The duty roster offers automated notifications, manages swap requests, provides real-time updates, and facilitates confirmation of duty availability.
Please note that organising duty swaps is the responsibility of each member if attendance is not possible. Swaps can be requested via email or confirmed through verbal or forum communication using the online Duty Roster system.
If you receive a swap request, consider helping out if possible. If you have any questions regarding duties, please contact Dale Giles, our On water duties co-ordinator at duties@paigntonsailingclub.co.uk.
