Dear ILCA sailors and parents.
Since promising English Rivera sunshine and good winds, we have been tracking the weather and it is obvious that Saturday in particular is looking less than ideal. The latest forecasts vary widely with MET OFFICE suggesting 20 kts but gusts around 30kts with ICON being very pessimistic of gusts over 40kts PredictWind.com — Custom Map. Paignton is fairly sheltered in West and SW winds however our priority has to be safety and safe sailing on Saturday is looking unlikely to be possible. Given some families are travelling from the SE, we fully appreciate that driving to Torbay is a big commitment in time and travel costs. Paignton SC are keen to minimize competitors wasted time and costs where possible. With all factors considered, PSC have taken the difficult decision to cancel racing on Saturday early. For competitors committed to coming anyway, PSC will have ribs afloat, so if conditions are actually manageable on Saturday sailors may have the opportunity to go afloat for training sessions, should they feel confident in their abilities to cope with the conditions. Currently most forecast models look slightly more encouraging for Sunday, and we expect racing to be possible. Therefore, the plan is to run a 1 day series on Sunday, with 4 races scheduled. Briefing 09.30. First warning at 10.25. We will be reviewing the forecast tomorrow regarding anticipated conditions for Sunday and a statement will be issued tomorrow (Friday) to clarify the situation for Sunday.
